Papua is located on the western half of the world’s second-largest island, New Guinea. Not to be confused with Papua New Guinea on the other side of the island, the Indonesian province of Papua is home to some of the most remote people groups on earth. Rugged mountains, dense jungles, and active volcanoes stand in the way of more than 250 ethnic groups and the outside world.
Because of you, MAF can provide vital aviation and radio communications services to Indonesia churches, Christian missions, and non-government organizations (NGOs) ministering in Papua, Indonesia.
MAF has served Papua since 1952—reaching isolated Papuans with Christ’s love by supporting churches and mission efforts, saving lives through medical evacuation flights, and creating access to community development projects, education, and crisis relief. MAF missionary families, with the help of close to 80 Indonesian staff, operate and maintain 9 MAF aircraft from five bases in Papua.
